About

John C. Madison is a freelance musician and multi-instrumentalist based in the Winston-Salem, NC area. His conservatory training has fostered a curiosity for a wide range of musical traditions, allowing him to move comfortably between diverse styles while maintaining a thoughtful, expressive approach to performance.
As a performer, Madison regularly presents music spanning centuries and a variety genres–from 16th to 21st century classical guitar repertoire, traditional Irish folk music honoring his family heritage, jazz fusion and funk ensembles, an alternative rock band, and the orchestra pit of various musical theatre productions. Whether performing as a soloist, collaborator, or music director, he strives to create experiences that honor tradition while bringing forth a fresh perspective and new artistic ideas.
Beyond the stage, Madison is deeply interested in the relationship between music and well-being. He has conducted extensive research into the effects of music on mental and physical health, and was recently selected for a competitive, grant-funded internship supporting his work with a local nonprofit that creates musical and visual arts experiences for pediatric cancer patients and their families. Whether on the concert stage, rehearsal studio, or at a patient’s bedside, he believes music is most meaningful when it brings people together through shared stories, memories, and moments of connection. These core values continue to shape his artistic vision and work as a musician.
